Client Caregiver Highlights

April 2023

Our Spring Clean Challenge has come to an end! Well done to everyone that took part!

Congratulations to our caregiver Karin for winning this year’s Spring Challenge! Karin worked tirelessly with her clients to declutter and give old items a new home at Saint Vincent De Paul Charity. Each week, Karin went into various rooms and worked with her client to get rid of some of the items that they no longer needed or wanted. By tidying up the space and clearing out old items, Karin made the house a lot lighter and easier to get around. Have a look at some of the before and after shots that Karin sent us!

We got to celebrate with Karin and took her for lunch and hot chocolates at Bewley’s Cafe in Dublin!

The caregivers and their clients have been busy cooking and baking these past few weeks!

Well done to our client Aileen and her caregiver Maria for making this delicious Apple Crumble! Aileen has a huge apple tree out in her garden and they made sure to pick plenty of apples to make this dish extra delicious.

Aileen has Parkinson's Disease and the symptoms can make meal prep challenging, and cooking can be exhausting but cooking is also known for keeping your mind sharp and your body moving which is very important.

If you have Parkinson’s there is no specific diet that you should follow to the letter. But you should find it helpful to maintain as healthy a diet as you can. Generally, the rules for following a healthy diet are:

• eat a varied diet

• eat healthy portions of foods

• eat the right balance of food groups

• eat regular meals

• drink plenty of fluid

• eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day

Eating a balanced diet will improve your health and may help to ease various problems you may be experiencing, including constipation, low mood, reduced bone density and weight changes.

Royal Homecare's Autumn Food Challenge is BACK! Clients along with their caregivers are putting their aprons on and whisking up some autumn-inspired healthy dishes together. We wish them all the very best of luck and are excited to see the dishes they whip up together!

Cooking is known for keeping your mind sharp and your body moving which makes it a great activity for seniors to do with their caregivers.

March 2022

At Royal Homecare, our clients and caregivers love a good challenge, and this Spring, we are holding our first Spring Clean Challenge

This spring clean challenge is an excellent activity for the elderly and can be tailored to their physical abilities and interests. It can help them stay active, engaged, and organised. The purpose of this challenge is to encourage our Senior Clients to declutter and organise their living space, which can help improve their physical and mental well-being and feel a sense of accomplishment by donating what they want and can to some of Ireland's incredible charities such as Enable Ireland and SVP - Society of St. Vincent de Paul Ireland

We can't wait to see how everyone gets on with this challenge! All participants will automatically be entered into a draw to win a special prize! The winning team will be announced on Friday, 28th April 2023

*It is essential to prioritise your clients/loved ones' safety and well-being while participating in the challenge!

September 2022

Royal Homecare has launched its STEPtember Challenge for our Clients and their Caregivers. This friendly challenge encourages our Caregivers and Clients to walk more together in September.

The benefits of walking include:

1. Strengthening your muscles

2. Improving your energy levels and increasing stamina

3. Improving your balance and coordination and decreasing your likelihood of falling

4. Increasing your confidence and mood and helping you feel better all round

We are so proud of our caregivers and their clients for taking part! In total, over 1.5 million steps were accumulated throughout September!

700K of those steps were accumulated by Steptember winners, caregiver Karin and her client Angela in County Westmeath!

At Royal Homecare, this is what a team day out looks like!

We had an amazing time at K2 Alpacas Prosecco and Alpaca Hike in County Wicklow. After hearing how Alpaca Therapy is used to calm and lift the mood of those living with dementia, we wanted to see what it was like. Therapy alpacas are growing in popularity at hospitals, healthcare facilities, and retirement homes worldwide.

K2 Alpacas provide animal-assisted activities (AAA) and animal-assisted interventions (AAI) and their goal is to provide full animal-assisted therapy (AAT).

Thank you very much to K2 Alpacas for such an enjoyable day!

Our wonderful, hardworking and creative live-in carer, Maria sent us these photos of Valentine's Day cards that she and her client made together. Maria has over 15 years caregiving experience and continuously comes up creative ways to keep her client active. Did you know that engaging activities such as arts and crafts can reduce agitation, distract from challenging behaviour and increase the quality of life for seniors with dementia.

Happy International Women's Day!

To commemorate the day, Royal Homecare family member Joe penned this beautiful poem to share with you all!

International Women's Day, March 8th, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

March 2022

Our caregivers and their clients took part in our annual Autumn Food Challenge. Caregivers had to create healthy nutritious autumn-inspired dishes with their clients.

The winner was Aileen in County Dublin along with her caregivers Margaret and Karen.

November 2021

Today was a very big day for one of our clients in County Dublin. After nearly 2 years of being indoors, she built up her confidence and went for her first outing with her fabulous live-in caregiver and our manager to the wonderful The River Cafe for outdoor coffee and cakes. This was one of her goals for some time and she did absolutely amazing! Many of the elderly have been struggling with physical, emotional and cognitive challenges following a year of being cooped up inside, stopping usual activities and seeing few, if any, people. The pandemic had increased their anxiety, with older people being worried about contracting COVID-19, the wellbeing and safety of their family, and about the future. With vaccines being distributed and places now opening up, we have seen an increase in our clients in trying to regain the confidence to continue their routines.
